Fairyland
Introduction
Step into the realm of symphonic power/speed metal with Fairyland, a dynamic band hailing from France. With their mesmerizing blend of intricate melodies, blistering guitar solos, and orchestral grandeur, Fairyland transports listeners on an epic journey through fantastical realms and mythical landscapes. With each soaring note and thunderous riff, Fairyland conjures a spellbinding experience that captivates audiences and leaves them longing for more.
Biography
The group "Fantasia," founded in 1998 by Philippe Giordana and Willdric Lievin, initially pursued a basic metal style. However, following the release of their first demo, "Tribute to Universe," their sound gradually transformed into a more symphonic and fantastical direction, as evident in their album "Realm of Wonders."
In 2002, while recording their debut album at Wizard Studio, the band enlisted guitarist Anthony Parker and secured Elisa C. Martin, renowned for her work with Dark Moor, as their vocalist. This period also marked the transition of the band's name to "Fairyland."
Their debut full-length album led them to partner with Intromental Management in Denmark and subsequently secure a recording deal with NTS, now known as Replica Records, based in France.
However, internal conflicts arose within the group, prompting Willdric Lievin and Elisa C. Martin to depart. Despite this setback, the group pressed on, completing recordings for their new concept album, "The Fall of an Empire," helmed once again by Philippe Giordana and Anthony Parker. They assembled a fresh lineup featuring vocalist Max Leclerqc (formerly of Magic Kingdom), drummer Pierre-Emmanuel "Piwee" Desfray, and bassist Thomas "Tom" Cesario.
The unreleased album quickly caught the attention of Napalm Records, an Austrian label, leading to the band's signing and the release of "The Fall of an Empire" in autumn 2006, along with a reissue of "Of Wars in Osyrhia." This was followed by a European tour alongside Kamelot and Leaves' Eyes.
Following the tour, Philippe and the rest of the band parted ways. Given Philippe Giordana's role as the primary composer for Fairyland, assembling a new lineup wasn't overly challenging. However, instead of pursuing this route, Philippe opted for a different approach, recruiting guest musicians for his next album. The resulting album, "Score to a New Beginning," was finalized in 2009, maintaining the musical style of its predecessors.
In 2015, Fairyland regrouped with Giordana reuniting with co-founder Willdric Lievin, who had left in 2004, alongside new additions Francesco Cavalieri, Jean-Baptiste Pol, and Sylvain Cohen. They immediately commenced work on their forthcoming album.
Sadly, Philippe Giordana, the band's keyboardist and primary composer, passed away on October 21, 2022.
On March 6, 2023, Archie Caine was revealed as the group's new lead vocalist, and the recording of their fifth album had wrapped up, with the debut single set for a spring 2024 release!
Projects
Their album "Of Wars in Osyrhia" hit the shelves in April 2003. Positive reception from both media and fans facilitated opportunities for the band to tour alongside Sonata Arctica in France and to perform at the Swedish Rock Festival in the same year.
On May 31, 2016, the initial song of the album, "Heralds Of The Green Lands," was released on YouTube. In February 2018, they revealed the list of songs for their upcoming album, Osyrhianta, which is another conceptual work acting as a precursor to their initial trilogy.
As of March 31, 2019, the band had finished recording and mastering their album, intending to release it in November 2019. However, on September 29, they revealed a postponement, explaining it was necessary to adjust their release plans. Consequently, Osyrhianta was rescheduled for an early 2020 release and ultimately became available on May 22.
On the other hand, this talented band had its first french tour supporting the famous group Sonata Arctica:
- Lille (La Laiterie) May 28, 2003
- Lyon (Le Transbordeur) May 29, 2003
- Paris (Elysée Montmartre) May 30, 2003
- Hirson (Festival) May 31, 2003
