OBSIDION

OBSIDION

Introduction

Emerging from the heart of Germany’s symphonic metal scene, OBSIDION delivers a mesmerizing fusion of power and elegance, blending commanding mezzo-soprano vocals, rich acoustic cello melodies, and a solid metal foundation—where even the bass is played by an electrifying cello. Their latest releases, the debut single Night Unfrozen (June 2024) and the brand-new single Delirion, showcase a perfect balance between gothic atmospheres, modern metal intensity, and cinematic orchestrations, all masterfully mixed and mastered by Frank Pitters (Visions of Atlantis, Dragony, Edenbridge). With stunning visuals produced by DreamFilmFactory (The Dark Side of the Moon, Equilibrium), OBSIDION is redefining the genre with a sound that’s both hauntingly beautiful and thunderously powerful.

Biography

OBSIDION was founded in 2019 by Tora-Linn and Gillian with the aim of establishing a new style in symphonic metal by adding Gillian's cello as an accompanying voice to Tora-Linn's mezzo-soprano and borrowing the rhythmic segment of the band from metalcore. This unusual combination brings a fresh and dynamic soundscape that combines both epic symphonies and powerful rhythms. In 2025, the band consists of five members: Tora-Linn (vocals), Gillian (cello), Flo (guitar), Jester (electric cello, taking the part of the electric bass), and Chris (keyboard).

The beginnings of the band were characterized by intensive songwriting and the development of their unique style. However, like many artists, OBSIDION experienced an unforeseen turn of events: The global corona pandemic forced the band to take a long break. During this time, the band also experienced several lineup changes as members navigated their own challenges during the crisis, and not all shared the same vision for the band's future.

Projects

Despite these setbacks, the creative core of the band remained intact, and OBSIDION finally made its return to the studio. In June 2024, the band's debut single was released. Titled "Night Unfrozen," it blended symphonic elements, powerful guitar riffs, and Tora-Linn’s expressive voice, capturing the essence of the band's style. This single and the accompanying music video also attracted attention beyond the metal scene and showed the band's potential to play a significant role in the symphonic metal genre.

After the success of the debut single, the second single “Delirion” followed in January 2025, an ecstatic, thrilling, fast-paced song about sanity, insanity and the gray areas in between - a haunting tale of trust and manipulation, death and rebirth.

The name OBSIDION signifies a combination of the black stone "Obsidian" and "Oblivion". OBSIDION stands for a place that listeners can escape to through the band’s songs, a place to find strength, warmth and willpower. But „OBSIDION also stands for a place of mystery and discovery... for the courage to close your eyes with a smile and dive into the light and shadow of the self and your own emotions through OBSIDION's music. To take in all good and bad, highs and lows, sorrow and joy, exhilarating love and crushing pain, that lingers within and find your own power, your own voice to conquer the world through "Emotional Alchemy": the upcoming Debut EP by OBSIDION coming this summer 2025.
